Langley Vale Pre-school fully recognises the responsibility to have arrangements in place to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children.
Through their day-to-day contact with children and direct work with families, all staff, students and volunteers at the setting have a crucial role to play in noticing indicators of possible abuse or neglect and in referring them to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). Our Safeguarding policy sets out how the setting complies with statutory responsibilities relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children who attend the setting.
There are four main elements to our policy:
1. Prevention through the support offered to children and the creation and maintenance of a whole-setting protective ethos.
2. Procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse.
3. Supporting children.
4. Promoting a protective ethos.
Our policy applies to all staff, paid and unpaid working in the setting, including volunteers. Concerned parents may also contact the setting’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).
The Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy in the setting are:
Designated Safeguarding Lead – Joanne Marshall
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead – Nicola Kibble

Safeguarding within Recruitment:
A safe recruitment process is always followed when recruiting adults to work for the setting, ensuring that background checks are carried out on all new employees, and that they have appropriate references and the relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience for their role.
We follow the 4 key stages during the recruitment process:
– discourage
– reject
– prevent
– observe and supervise
An enhanced criminal records disclosure (DBS check) with children barred list check is always obtained before recruiting any member of staff.
Supervisions:
High quality performance management is one of the most important elements in ensuring positive outcomes for children and their families. It also has a crucial role to play in the development, retention and motivation of the early years and childcare workforce. As such, supervision and appraisal meetings are now a Statutory Safeguarding and Welfare Requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage and are conducted at our setting on a frequent basis.

Whistle Blowing:
Langley Vale Pre-school is committed to delivering care of the highest possible standard. We welcome and encourage staff and volunteers to come forward and voice any concerns about any aspect of Langley Vale Pre-school work, so that they can be dealt with effectively. We want you to feel able to raise concerns within Langley Vale Pre-school without fear of reprisals, rather than overlooking a problem or discussing it with people outside the setting.
